I am interested in making my own grow lights using LED. There are companies that make them but they are so expensive it is out of my budget range. If there were plans and parts available I could make my own hopefully for a lot less.
First question would be what wavelengths of light are ideal for grow lights? LEDs have a narrow emission spectrum so to make the best grow light you might want to use multiple LEDs combined to make something more like ideal sunglight than what you could get with a single LED. At noon, sunlight has an intensity of about 1000 watts per square meter. That's quite a bit! So the next question would be: how many square feet or meters do you want to illuminate, and with what intensity?
Given answers to those two questions now we could start to make a design.
The next question would be: what is your budget? What do you ideally want, and what could you settle for if you can't afford everything you want?

Thank you so much! I was exploring this concept with Affinity Lab about a year ago (http://blogofpatrick.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/qrchtecture/), and we got stuck with figuring out how to do an LED matrix. This solution will make it a possibility !

Where are the background discussion, schematics, instructions for the Great Create projectas? Whats a discussion on LED grow lights have to do with a LED QR Code project? And what's a Light bulb PCR?
